Khadijah Farrakhan, the longtime wife of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan and the organization’s First Lady, has died at the age of 90.
The Nation of Islam announced her passing on June 27, 2026, saying that she had “returned to Allah.”
Born Betsy Ross on November 26, 1935, Khadijah Farrakhan married Louis Farrakhan in 1953. The couple embraced Islam together in 1955 after joining the Nation of Islam. For more than seven decades, she served as a devoted supporter of her husband’s leadership and became widely known as the First Lady of the Nation of Islam.
Khadijah Farrakhan played an important role within the organization, helping strengthen its women’s programs and contributing to the design of the Nation of Islam’s women’s uniforms.
She also addressed the Million Woman March in Philadelphia in 1997, where she encouraged unity, strong families, and community empowerment. Though she largely stayed out of the public spotlight, she was regarded as a respected figure within the Nation of Islam and remained active in its work for decades.
Khadijah Farrakhan is survived by her husband of 72 years, Louis Farrakhan, and eight of their nine children, along with numerous grandchildren and extended family members. Their eldest son, Louis Farrakhan Jr., died in 2018.
